The foundation is constructed of Insulated Concrete Forms (ICF) with an insulating factor of R-24. The ICFs encompass the entire foundation, including the walk-out section. Using continuous insulation like this, and unlike a stick-built home, the homeowners will have superior heating and cooling results. |

The window and door buck framing is set in place in advance, followed by logs to surround these openings. |

| Weathertight Shell |

The home shell is a combination of 8x8 Western Red Cedar log construction with a butt and pass corner system. This home’s shell will provide a continuous thermal mass and maintain temperatures for a much longer time than a standard stick-built home. |

| Roof Framing |

The framing for a heavy timber roof system has begun. The choice to use a heavy timber roof will provide superior insulation. Materials for this roof include 6 inches of overlapping, rigid, polyurethane foam insulation in the ceiling envelope (>R-38) and closed-cell, spray-applied polyurethane foam in all conventionally framed areas, such as the dormers (R-27). |

| Interior Design |

The homeowner chose a flat profile for the inside of the home, while the exterior of the log was cut with a D profile. Customization for each home is standard at Hilltop. |

| Energy Audit |

The home owners set out to create as green a home as possible. With just a few final construction elements remaining, an Energy Star blower test will be done soon. This test will determine if the home owner is eligible for a rebate from the utility company. In New Hampshire, achieving Energy Star certification entitles the homeowner to a rebate from the utility company. |
